The Importance of Color Coordination

Posted by on

Today we will be discussing about color coordination and why it's important that you get it right.

While on the surface it might not seem to matter much, however this could be further from the truth.

By styling correctly, you're showing the world that you hold yourself to a high degree. You care about the way you present yourself and character, good manners, protocol and good form are all part of your core values.

Women and other members of society will unconsciously pick up on this just from the way you dress.

Matching Your Leathers

When you're wearing leathers, they should be consistent throughout your outfit - this goes for shoes, belts, watch straps and if possible your wallet too.
Your style looks inconsistent and shows that you lack style etiquette if you're wearing a brown leather belt with black leather shoes or vice versa - this is a rookie mistake that many men make.

Matching Your Metals

The same guidelines for leather also apply to metals - if you're wearing a belt with a silver buckle, make sure the metal on your watch and any cuff links are also silver. If you're wearing gold/rose gold, make sure the rest of your metals also match for good etiquette.

When you're building out your wardrobe, focus on neutral colors first as they are very versatile and go together well. Colors such as black, navy, different shades of blue, grey, brown, olive, black, white etc can all be easily interchanged to make a variety of different outfits.

Monochromatic Colors

Monochromatic colors such as grey, white and black making a striking yet simple style. A classic go to for any man looking for an easy to put together style.

Go With Your 'Instinct'

Many times the best styles can be put together based on your gut instinct. Don't mix too many random colors together and aim to have a standard color palette such as creams, whites and light blues and then if you're feeling like experimenting, feel free to use a necktie or socks that help your outfit pop.

Other ideas you can experiment with are having a standard, neutral color palette overall, and then using your shirt to help your style pop or have a balanced overall neutral look depending on what you're going for.
